When is newborn circumcision typically performed?
Your doctor will tell you when its best for your child to have the intervention.
Circumcision is usually performed before the baby is 12 lbs. This typically occurs by the time the baby is 2 months, in case of full-term children. If the child exceeds this size, the risk of complications such as bleeding increases.
If your child has passed this size, it’s recommended to wait until he is approximately 6 months. By that age, he is able to have the intervention under general anesthesia.
