What should I do the day before the hemicolectomy surgery?

Before this surgery, you will have a lengthy discussion with your doctor about the advantages, disadvantages and possible risks of hemicolectomy. He or she will tell you how to prepare for the intervention.

You should not be eating for 8 hours prior to the surgery, but you are allowed to drink clear liquids. The liquid intake should stop 2 hours before the intervention.

Before hemicolectomy, you have to go through a standard bowel preparation. This means you will need a bowel cleanse. Your doctor will give you all the specific recommendations.

Tell your doctor what medication you usually take and he or she will let you know if you should stop the treatment before the surgery.
