What kind of follow-up do I need after shoulder/elbow surgery?

After shoulder/elbow surgery, it’s necessary to have a follow-up appointment in order to understand how well you’re healing and what precautions you should still take. You will have your follow-up appointment several weeks after the surgery.

The follow-up is usually scheduled approximately 6 weeks after the surgery. During this appointment, your doctor will evaluate your recovery and provide you with more recommendations.

Following a shoulder or elbow intervention, you will be given analgesics and anti-inflammatory medicine to keep the swelling under control and mitigate pain. You will gradually resume your activity after the surgery and require physiotherapy to recover faster.

During this visit, talk to your doctor about any symptoms you experience and ask any questions regarding the activities you want to resume and the impact they may have on your recovery.
