How long is the recovery period after an ankle replacement surgery?
There are several stages of recovery after this procedure. The patient's mobility will be fairly limited for about six weeks after the procedure as they will be wearing a splint or a boot and generally won't move without assistance.
During the first two weeks after the ankle replacement procedure, patients should limit their movement as much as possible. After that, patients would temporarily remove the boot and begin simple physical therapy exercises.
Recovery from any surgery, especially the ones involving total joint replacement, can vary from one patient to the next. There are a number of factors that can affect an individual’s recovery time, including age, health conditions, and certain variables within the replacement.
