Dr. Som Kohanzadeh is a renowned plastic surgeon who specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and he is currently affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital. The plastic surgeon completed General Surgery Residency training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, followed by a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery research fellowship performed in collaboration with UC San Diego. During this period, Dr. Som Kohanzadeh published numerous research articles in the fields of plastic surgery, general surgery, trauma surgery, and vascular surgery, in addition to conducting presentations at a variety of national and regional meetings. After completing his training in General Surgery and becoming certified by the American Board of Surgery, the physician attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham to train in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery under the renowned Luis Vasconez, MD. He received comprehensive training in reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery, in addition to gaining extensive expertise in complex hand surgery and microsurgery. The plastic surgeon also has a Bachelor of Science in Cybernetics with a specialization in physiology, which he earned Summa Cum Laude.
Dr. Som Kohanzadeh also has relevant volunteering experience, having been part of the Johnson Foundation, by virtue of which he offered reconstructive surgery for people in impoverished countries without access to modern surgical care. He provided burn reconstruction, hand surgery, cleft lip and palate reconstruction, cancer surgery and reconstruction, and many other reconstructive and plastic surgery procedures. Furthermore, he got involved in the Interface program, through which he reached out to impoverished and underserved areas of Mexico to provide reconstructive surgery to those in need. He was part of the Mexicali plastic and reconstructive mission, the La Piedad plastic and reconstructive mission, and the Honduras plastic and reconstructive mission.
Dr. Som Kohanzadeh is a member of numerous medical associations and organizations, such as Hand Surgery International. The plastic surgeon has approximately 20 years of professional experience. Before practicing medicine in California, he had medical licenses for Alabama and Arizona. He is also the recipient of multiple awards, including ACS Fellow, Winner of the 4th Annual Leon Morganstern Great Debate, and Chancellor's Service Award. Some of the innovative non-surgical methods Dr. Som Kohanzadeh uses include Botox, Juvederm, Voluma, Juvederm Volbella, Latisse, Skinpen Micro-needling, PRP Facial Rejuvenation, Thermirf, Cynosure FlexSure, and Cynosure Tempsure, to name a few.
