Sanjay Khurana, M.D.
Dr. Sanjay Khurana is a spine surgery specialist who is currently affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital. He completed his undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley, earning a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology, and received his medical degree from Stanford University. The surgeon completed his residency at Stanford Medical Center and a specialty spine surgery fellowship at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Sanjay Khurana specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, motion preservation, and spine reconstruction, having helped over 1,700 patients over his career of 25 years with the spine surgical procedures they needed. He has published numerous papers on spine research in peer-review journals and also holds patents in spine surgery. Dr. Sanjay Khurana is a senior staff member at Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital and his name was included in the Super Doctors list by the Super Doctors Southern California Magazine and Castle Connolly's Top Doctors list.
His area of expertise focuses on spinal reconstruction, cervical spine surgery, minimally invasive microsurgery, adult and pediatric scoliosis, spine trauma and tumors, and the evaluation and treatment of patients with multiple failed and previous surgeries. Furthermore, Dr. Sanjay Khurana is a distinguished member of the Society of Lateral Access Surgery that helps define and advance the science and art of lateral surgery and, particularly, the XLIF procedure - eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion - a side approach for lumbar fusions that are performed on an outpatient basis. He is a highly regarded spinal surgeon and has earned multiple national and international distinctions for spine research, including the 1999 Volvo Corporation Award for the Clinical Study of Low Back Pain and the 2000 Orthopedic Hospital Research Award from the California Orthopedic Association. The surgeon was previously Chief of Spine Surgery at Permanente Group San Diego. Dr. Sanjay Khurana is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
