Dr. Melamed has been a lead author on multiple published peer-reviewed papers and has presented his research at several meetings including: North American Spine Society, Scoliosis Research Society, Congress for Neurological Surgeons, International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques and Cervical Spine Research Society.
He is a lead author on the chapter for the Spinal Deformity Textbook: “Cervico-Thoracic Junction: Fixation Options” published in May, 2008.
Dr. Melamed is a distinguished member of the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, and candidate member of Scoliosis Research Society.
He currently serves as Co-Director of the Spinal Surgery Program at D.I.S.C., as spine consultant at Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children in Los Angeles and he is also the adjunct clinical instructor at Las Vegas Touro School of Medicine.
His approach to back surgery is different from what the usual doctors and spine surgeons practice. His father was a doctor and served him a great deal of inspiration, so he learned from him to carefully listen to each patient first, get to know their entire history and employ conservative methods whenever possible. For Dr. Melamed, “surgery is the last resort” and, for him, it is very important to carefully make a proper diagnosis and treatment plan for each individual patient.
