Brian S. Shafa, M.D.
Dr. Brian S. Shafa graduated from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in 2012. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon who is trained in cosmetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, and is well-acquainted with every aspect of plastic surgery, including burn treatment, wound care, and hand surgery. He is affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital at the moment. The physician is committed to assisting patients in achieving their aesthetic goals. His experience in complex revisional surgery honed his talents and sharpened his eye for detail, enabling him to devise innovative solutions.
The plastic surgeon has worked with a very diverse patient demographic across the United States and abroad and has developed a reputation as a caring, honest, and devoted physician who develops trusting relationships with his patients. During the time he volunteered at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Dr. Brian S. Shafa worked with multiple local plastic surgeons, cementing his interest in medicine and his love of the field of cosmetic surgery. Subsequently, the physician attended Johns Hopkins University, where he completed his degree in Biology.
Following his undergraduate training, he completed a research year at Harvard Medical School focused on Cancer Biology and Genetics. He then matriculated to the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, from which he earned a Master's Degree in Cancer Biology. After graduate school, Dr. Brian S. Shafa returned to Los Angeles for a research year at UCLA focused on epigenetic control in cancer development. In 2008, the plastic surgeon moved to Michigan for medical school at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Afterward, he completed his General Surgery training at the prestigious Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
In spite of a rigorous educational agenda, Dr. Shafa has always emphasized the importance of community outreach and volunteering. While in high school, he was a usual volunteer at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, in addition to performing multiple community service opportunities throughout Los Angeles. While at Johns Hopkins, his volunteer experiences became focused on health equality for diverse patient populations, a theme that continued through his Public Health education. While in medical school and general surgery training, Dr. Shafa was presented with multiple awards for his community service, including the prestigious Golden Heart Award.
