Marina del Rey Hospital Introduces MISI
Just in time for Women’s Health Month, Marina del Rey Hospital has launched the new Minimally Invasive Surgery Institute (MISI) to offer women in the Los Angeles area the most innovative, least invasive options for hysterectomies and other procedures. Among these minimally invasive options, is the single-site hysterectomy.
On April 28th 2014, board certified gynecological surgeon Dr. David Ghozland became the first physician in the Los Angeles area to perform this ”virtually scarless” surgery using the da Vinci Si robotic system. Now, Marina Del Rey Hospital is the first hospital in Los Angeles to offer hysterectomy using this cutting edge technique.
With the launch of this program, MISI is embarking upon a campaign to educate women that they don’t need to live with painful or unpleasant conditions thanks to new state-of-the-art treatment options.
"Data shows that one-in-four women suffer from prolapse or incontinence, but only 11 to 19 percent get surgery to treat the issue. We want to educate women living with these conditions and others that treatment is available with shorter recovery times than they may expect,” said Dr. Ghozland.
The new educational program includes free monthly seminars for women interested in learning more about options for treating the most common women’s health conditions. At these seminars, women, their friends, and their family can meet patients who have undergone gynecological procedures and have their questions answered by Marina del Rey Hospital surgeons. The first event will take place on Monday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Café del Rey in Marina del Rey. Seats may be reserved by calling 844-647-4496.
Marina del Rey Hospital has also a launched a social media presence dedicated to women’s health.
