In 2009, a back problem sidelined Luke Walton, then a forward with the L.A. Lakers. But Walton saw Dr. Robert Watkins of Marina Del Rey Hospital's spine center, and after an extensive consultation, Dr. Watkins determined that surgery wasn't needed.
Therapy was prescribed, and it was successful. After spending the ensuing months rehabilitating his back, Walton was able to rejoin the Lakers and contribute in the 2010–11 and 2011–2012 seasons.
Walton was traded in March 2012 to the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he retired in 2013. He now works as a player development coach for the Lakers' development-league affiliate team, the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
