Over 60 people came to the party on August 18. They included patients at different stages of their weight loss journey, as well as their loved ones and staff members. The guests of honor: about two dozen patients who had surgery three months to nine years ago, and who, combined, lost a total of 2,052 pounds.

Think about it! Through hard work and mutual support, just 24 patients have lost over an entire ton of excess weight!

We see this as a chance for our whole weight loss community to gather in celebration of success and health. Many patients bring their “before” photos, and lots of us didn't find it easy to recognize the people we know today in these old pre-surgery pictures. The kids in attendance played on a bouncy castle, and everyone got a chance to participate in a raffle with health-conscious prizes. The Western theme was a hit — and while they were here, we also got some patients to update their medical files with a current status report.

This is the seventh bariatric family reunion we've put on. We started the tradition back in 2005, and although we took last year off to participate in the Walk From Obesity, we were very pleased to be able to bring the event back for 2012.

Thank you to everyone who came and made the reunion such a joy for us.
