Will the fusion affect the rest of the spine?

After examining you, your doctor will be able to answer this question based on your condition.

Whether the fusion is going to affect the rest of the spine or not depends on the part of the spine that requires fusion and the number of levels that are affected. Your doctor will be able to answer this question after he or she examines your spine.

Every lumbar spinal segment is responsible for 1/5th of motion. Your flexibility and ability to perform different movements after the fusion surgery will depend on the number of segments that were involved in the intervention.
