Will the artificial disc device trigger airport alarms?
This is one of the most frequent questions patients have before undergoing artificial disc replacement.
Normally, the implant should not trigger the alarm device. A patient who had artificial disc replacement during the past years is quite unlikely to have any problems triggering the airport alarm.
The discs that are currently deployed in this type of intervention and that are made of metals like titanium or biopolymer materials do not interfere with the metal detectors used at the airport. The devices used approximately a decade ago that were made of stainless steel used to cause problems.
