When is my first follow-up after the rectal resection surgery?

Before you are discharged, your doctor will tell you when your first follow-up appointment should take place.

We usually ask patients to come for their first follow-up four to six weeks after the rectal resection surgery. Follow-up is essential for your recovery, so try not to postpone this appointment. During your first follow-up appointment, your doctor will ask you several questions about how your recovery is going.

Be completely honest with your doctor and tell him or her if anything bothers you. Based on your discussion, the doctor will be able to tell you what the next steps in your recovery are.
