When do I have my first postoperative follow-up after a thoracic surgery?

After this type of intervention, it is important to follow up with your doctor because he or she has to evaluate your recovery. Based on your symptoms and how well you are healing, your doctor will be able to provide you with the most appropriate guidelines for each stage of your recovery. You will see your doctor again for the first time after the surgery in 2-4 weeks.

Follow-up care after the discharge process is a key part of your treatment and safety

Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital’s thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons perform complex procedures every day - everything from minimally-invasive procedures, such as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), to traditional open surgeries. You will be seen by your surgeon approximately 2-4 weeks following discharge. Your doctor will tell you when this meeting should take place following thoracic surgery.

At your first appointment, your doctor will give you a plan of regular follow-up visits (at least once a year), and instructions on driving, returning to work, and medications. If you are unable to attend this appointment you should call your doctor to make alternative arrangements.
