What should I do after the tonsillectomy surgery?
Most patients need to take one or two weeks off from work after this procedure, depending on the type of work you do and how well you feel after the procedure.
Getting enough rest is very important during your recovery. You should also avoid demanding activities for two weeks after the tonsillectomy procedure but non-strenuous activities such as walking are recommended.
You should drink plenty of fluids in order to keep yourself hydrated. If you experience pain when swallowing, you can start out with ice pops, cold or room-temperature drinks.
During the first two weeks, you should choose soft foods like pudding, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, and yogurt.
Avoid hot drinks, spicy or crunchy foods. Follow your doctor's instructions precisely regarding your medicine. You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience bleeding or fever after the procedure.
Snoring is normal during the first two weeks. If you are having breathing problems after this period you should inform your doctor.
