What precautions should I consider after hand surgery?

Your doctor will provide you with a comprehensive list of aftercare recommendations you should follow in order to minimize the discomfort.

Following a hand surgery, you should take your pain medication as instructed. If you feel that your medicine is not effective in relieving the pain, call your doctor.

Do not change or remove your dressing unless your doctor told you that it’s ok to do so.

You should avoid strenuous activities after the surgery because they increase your heart rate which maximizes swelling and discomfort.

You should move the joints and tendons that are not covered by a splint in order to prevent stiffness.
