What physical activity is recommended following urethropexy?

Before you are discharged, we will provide you with all the necessary aftercare guidelines you should follow after urethropexy.

Urethropexy is surgical fixation to nearby tissue of a displaced urethra that is causing incontinence. Overall recovery time includes six weeks with some activity restrictions, however, patients are often able to return to a normal routine shortly after surgery.

Before you are discharged, we will provide you with all the necessary aftercare guidelines you should follow after urethropexy.

  • During the first period of your recovery, you will need to limit your activity as your body needs time to heal and we need to make sure the risk of complications is minimized.
  • Short walks are recommended after urethropexy because they reduce the risk of forming blood clots.
  • Strenuous activities are not recommended for 5-6 weeks. By strenuous activity, we refer to any activity that requires effort and makes you feel tired.
