What is robot-assisted GYN surgery?
Robot-assisted GYN surgeries are gynecological procedures performed with the help of the da Vinci robot. Using this system the surgeon is operating from the system console near the patient's bed using the guided arms of the surgical robot provided with flexible surgical instruments. Robot-assisted GYN surgery uses tiny incisions instead of a large one, thus reducing the loss of blood, risk of infection, and shortens recovery time.
At Cedars Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital using minimally invasive robotic surgery, we are able to safely treat several types of gynecologic cancers and other gynecologic conditions including cervical cancer, vaginal prolapse, paravaginal defects, uterine cancer, uterine fibroids, vaginal fistulas.
Using the da Vinci system we perform single-site hysterectomies, which require just one incision at the navel's level instead of multiple small incisions on the abdomen. This is how we minimize pain and recovery time.
After robotic gynecologic surgery when compared with other surgical approaches, women experience less postoperative pain, reduced scarring, fewer complications, and a faster return to normal activities. Robotic surgery may also help preserve fertility and improve reproductive health, depending on age and the procedure the patient undergoes.
