What diet is recommended following hydrocelectomy?
You can resume a normal diet after hydrocelectomy and it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids in order to avoid dehydration. Your doctor will tell you what diet is most appropriate following hydrocelectomy and let you know if any restrictions apply to your case.
The anesthesia can cause some stomach discomfort and nausea for a few hours to a few days after surgery. Once you are fully awake from general anesthesia you will be offered clear liquids and if this is tolerated you can then progress to a normal diet. However, try to avoid heavy and greasy foods as these can cause constipation and hinder proper bowel movement. For healthy and easy digestion, try to eat light and incorporate more fiber-rich foods into your diet.
Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated at all times. Dehydration can impair the healing process and thus slow down your recovery. Therefore, drink water, fruit and vegetable juices, milk, and herbal teas at regular intervals of time.
If you have constipation problems, your doctor will tell you what kind of fiber supplement or laxative you can take. A balanced and healthy diet containing sufficient fibers and protein is always recommended following hydrocelectomy.
