Should I undergo medical diagnostics imaging if I am pregnant?
If you are pregnant, any type of radiation-based medical diagnostic imaging should be avoided.
Medical institutions explain that most X-rays do not harm the reproductive organs (with abdominal X-rays being the known exception, as, although the dosage may be low, they still target a sensitive area), however, it is safer to avoid them just in case of accidents.
In case of absolute necessity, assess the dangers by discussing the situation with your doctor or technologist before actually undergoing any procedure.
There may be other ways of dealing with your condition than radiation-based imaging, such as ultrasound imaging, and you should always keep X-rays as a last resort or at least let the technician know beforehand and discuss dosage and the potential harmful effects.
