Is skin cancer a deadly condition?

Most types of skin cancers can be treated successfully if detected in its earlier stages.

Skin cancer is a common type of cancer but, at the same time, it is the most preventable. There are multiple types of skin cancer, some of them more dangerous than others.

Skin cancer types

  • Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer once it spreads to other parts of the body, where it becomes hard to treat and can be fatal. Melanoma recognized and treated early, can be perfectly curable.
  • Basal and squamous skin cancer can also be life-threatening in certain circumstances, but much less likely than melanoma.
  • Basal cell carcinoma - death due to this type is unlikely, but early treatment is essential nonetheless.

The best course of action is to contact your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any symptoms that you think might be linked to skin cancer.
