How will I feel after the sphincterotomy surgery?

Right after the surgery, you will still be under the effect of the anesthesia which will gradually subside.

The anesthetic will keep the pain symptoms away for the rest of the day. However, after its effects wear off, you will start feeling pain. You will receive medication for pain relief after the sphincterotomy. Antibiotics might also be recommended in order to prevent infection.

In order to minimize the discomfort, you might want to try sitz baths. These baths should be done in warm water for approximately 15 minutes. They can provide pain relief for several hours.
