How do I prepare for the cataract surgery?

Using eye drops to lower the risk of infection is highly recommended prior to cataract surgery.

Firstly, your physician will ask you to undergo some tests which have the purpose of measure the size and shape of your eye so that the surgeon will know which type of artificial lenses to use.

You will also be required to cease taking certain medication which can increase bleeding during the procedure. It is also a very good idea to begin using eye drops to reduce the risk of infection following surgery.

As with the majority of surgical procedures, you will also need to stop eating or drinking anything 12 hours before it is scheduled.

Finally, you should have someone who can drive you home after the cataract surgery, since you will be able to leave the hospital the same day and your vision will not be very good for a while.
