How can I prevent vascular problems?

Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of premature death worldwide. There are several ways by which we can reduce the risk of developing such health problems.

People need to follow certain lifestyle tips in order to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Here is a list of guidelines that you need to follow strictly:

  • Quit smoking: Smoking causes harm to your blood vessels increasing the risk of developing atherosclerosis, deep vein thrombosis, abdominal aortic aneurysm, stroke, and peripheral artery disease. It is better to avoid secondhand smoke too.
  • Choose a healthy diet: Eating healthy foods helps by maintaining risk factors such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes under control. A balanced diet should include fruits and vegetables of various color, beans, whole grains, fish, lean meat and poultry, and low-fat or fat-free dairy products.
  • Stay active: Regular physical activities help decrease your risk of vascular disease by helping you manage your weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. You need to engage yourself in physical activity for 30 minutes each day.
  • Regular check-up: It is essential to follow your treatment plan for diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol as these conditions are linked to vascular disease. Have regular appointments scheduled with your doctor to monitor your health.
