How can I maximize the hand reconstructive surgery’s effects?

There are many ways in which you can maximize the surgery’s effects during your recovery.

The success of hand reconstruction depends largely on what you do after it. Your doctor will provide you with clear guidelines that can maximize the surgery’s result.

Follow the exercise program recommended by your therapist, rest sufficiently and take the prescribed medication. An additional therapy method such as heat therapy or nerve stimulation might also be recommended.  It’s important to follow the specialists’ indications regarding your rehabilitation in order to achieve a fast recovery.

What precautions should I consider after hand surgery?

Following hand reconstruction, you should take your pain medication as instructed. If you feel that your medicine is not effective in relieving the pain, call your doctor.

  • Do not change or remove your dressing unless your doctor told you that it’s ok to do so.
  • You should avoid strenuous activities after the surgery because they increase your heart rate which maximizes swelling and discomfort.
  • You should move the joints and tendons that are not covered by a splint in order to prevent stiffness.
