Are cataracts found only in older people?
Most patients with cataract are aged 50 and older because cataracts tend to develop slowly over time.
Cataracts are a very common condition. Nearly half of all US population will develop a cataract by the age of 65 and almost everyone aged 75 and older have developed at least a mild cataract.
Although it's rare, infants can be born with a cataract. When this happens, most of the time it is caused by the mother suffering from an infectious disease during pregnancy.
